Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late to Vote for Your Third Party

Picture Showing Bush and Obama are the same

The United States is in a precarious position. Chinese students laughed at Geithner in his assurance that dollar based assets are safe. America closed the books on 2011 with debt at an all time record $15,222,940,045,451.09, with the US debt to GDP now officially over 100%. The United States opened 2012 with a law that makes it possible to indefinitely detain “terrorist” suspects without any form of trial or due process.

With that backdrop, we just witnessed State of the Union address, the annual ritual where a Republican or Democrat throws out some platitudes and tells you how the “opposing” party has beat your wife and starved your children. Then the opposing party comes out throws out some more platitudes and tells you how the first party has wronged you. It would almost be as entertaining as professional wrestling, except the consequences are real. Unfortunately, the Republicans and Democrats are a tag team against you:

  • Democrats and Republicans support endless wars
  • Democrats and Republicans support drug policies leading to the highest per capita incarceration rate in the world
  • Democrats and Republicans support banker bailouts

Name your political poison and the Democrats and Republicans probably tag teamed to feed it to you. The country needs to break out of the mindset of voting for the two parties. Voter’s need to stop rewarding perpetual failure. Stop voting for someone because they appear “mainstream” or “electable.” Define your expected positions and actions for your candidate. And look for someone who spends more time researching the issues instead of preparing for the camera. Don’t veer away from your third party candidate due to simple labels of “extremism” or “unpresidential.”

Up until relatively recently, it’s been easy to dismiss Richard Stallman as a paranoid fanatic, someone who lost touch with reality long ago. A sort of perpetual computer hippie, the perfect personification of the archetype of the unworldly basement-dwelling computer nerd. His beard, his hair, his outfits – in our visual world, it’s simply too easy to dismiss him….

Late last year, president Obama signed a law that makes it possible to indefinitely detain terrorist suspects without any form of trial or due process. Peaceful protesters in Occupy movements all over the world have been labeled as terrorists by the authorities…

his sometimes extreme views and peculiar antics were ridiculed and disregarded as paranoia – but here we are, 2012, and his once paranoid what-ifs have become reality.

In other words, the extremist was right all along. Is that you? If so, that commentator made the first step and so can you. Stop voting for the stuffed suits who give you platitudes.  Do you want peace? Do you want a rehabilitation approach for prisoners? Do you want an end to the drug war? Do you want government spending on infrastructure? It’s pretty clear what you are going to get from the Democrats and Republicans. Stop wasting your vote on Democrats and Republicans and start voting for the third party consistent with your positions. Start voting for third parties in order to effect needed and real change.
